Slowly I crawled out of bed this morning, feeling like today should be a national holiday. I have a fun hangover and yet my Canadian pride could light a small northern town. Yesterday's hockey gold medal game and the conclusion of the Olympics was indescribable. Our home, as I am sure was yours, rang out with cheers. We laughed, we sang, we stood proud, we celebrated and I was teary-eyed when it was all said and done. I liken the feeling to a celebration of life, mournful and yet happy at the same time.
Truly my elation is mostly for this country of ours. I always smile when I have passed someone with a Canadian tattoo, a patch sewn onto their backpack or a flag waving proudly at the lake. In fact, the pride we feel as Canadians is not a secret, at least to us. Today however, I relish in the glory that the world knows somewhat how it feels to be Canadian.
I love that the world was reminded how much we pride ourselves on manners and opening our homes. I love that the closing ceremonies included the Mounties along side music heroes from Niel Young to Nickelback. I love that maple syrup and Molson Canadian are staples to this great country. If I close my heart, still ringing in my ears is the theme song, I believe. This winter Olympics will go down in history with more *Heart* than Hollywood could have written. I love to be Canadian.
In between the hockey gold and the closing ceremonies, we had dinner with my in-laws. BIG appetites from BIG cheers were satiated with GF lasagna, red wine and Dairy Queen. Vancouver 2010 will forever be stamped on my heart. For 16 plus days, Canadian pride became the hot topic in our parenting monologues. This pride has truly begun to trickle down into the hearts of our boys and that makes today a GREAT day, despite my Fun Hangover.
Well said, my friend! Well said!
