"A mind once stretched by a good idea can never return to its original dimensions." Oliver Wendell Holmes
I guess this quote could be made to reference something as simple as learning to ride a bike. Or, conversely it could reflect opening one's mind to new possibilities. I am now reading this book by Robin Sharma, author of The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. In it he discusses how if you want to be happy, it's simple... do things that make you happy.
Sounds doable right? So I guess the question that begs to be answered is why don't we? Why don't we just do things that makes us happy? Society has some rules, I'm thinking. Other wise drinking margaritas at 9:00 am in your pjays would be the norm. So would staying up late and sleeping in. I may even go as far as to say that being happy could mean doing whatever YOU want, even in small douses.
Little people seem wise to all of this happiness stuff. The other day I asked G if he wanted to go for a walk in the wagon with Aura and I.
"Sure!" he bellows. So, we get dressed, shoes on, leash, poop bag and we're out the door. Sounds easy right? Well, Mr. Independence definitely doesn't want to go IN the wagon. Better yet HE wants to pull it. Ok fine. So, we don't get as far and we definitely don't go too fast, but he has a blast. Him and his wagon hit every puddle along the route.
It was only as we were round 3rd, heading for home that we pass another dog on the opposite side of the street. This dog happens to go nuts, barking at Aura.
G dropped the handle of his Radio Flyer, pointed his little finger and shouted across the street: "Hey. You don't bark at my doggie. She's out exercising so quit making so much noise!" With that, both me and the other dog owner burst out laughing. G saw us laughing and joined in. He laughed almost until we got home.
Do whatever makes you happy G!
Sometimes the things that make us happy take effort and self-sacrifice, so we put them off or neglect them completely.
